rt.com | World Chaos– As 300 tons of contaminated water flow daily into the Pacific from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, Japan’s government is working in crisis mode to make sure the leak, which the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has failed to contain, is sealed.
Recent shocking reports confirmed by government officials have revealed that for two years since the March 2011 earthquake that triggered the Fukushima disaster, hundreds of tons of groundwater running under the damaged power plant are being mixed with toxic water used to cool its reactors and then leak into the Pacific Ocean.
Officials and the public have lashed out at the Fukushima operator TEPCO for failing to cope with and report on the situation, which the country’s nuclear watchdog NRA has described as an “emergency.”

14:40 GMT: The level of the contaminated radioactive groundwater under the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant has risen 60cm above the protective barrier, according to the plant’s operator TEPCO.
This is the main reason why the water is freely leaking into the Pacific Ocean, the operator said.
TEPCO and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan are to decide on the urgent strengthening of the protective barrier.

Germany is doing the right thing, closing each and every one of their nuclear power plants and using solar and other alternative energy sources. In fact, they are ahead of schedule and receiving more energy from altenate sources than from the now closed nuke plants. Most of the plants in the United States are at or beyond their original design life, and are operating on extensions. It is not unusual for leaks to spring in pipes, due to wear and tear. In the last year several workers have lost their lives in US nuke power plants. In America we need to close our plants down ASAP, quite a few are of the older design with suspended fuel pools. Talk about an accident waiting to happen. For Fukushima all efforts have been too little, too late. Tepco has refused help and now they are contaminating the all the oceans The molten cores have eaten through the floor on the containment vessels and are likely what is causing all the steaming as they access groundwater. The UN and the United States need to step in and insist that all steps that can be taken, are taken to contain this event as much as possible. In the event of another earthquake or collapse of one of the damaged structures there could be a critical event at Fukushima, meaning a nuclear explosion. God help us all.
