Song Lyrics:
Synagogue, Rabbi’s talk, going on for a while, can you check the clock, huh
Cantor’s opera, lost my spot, do you know the place, choir in the slot
Wine we drink, with family now, good deeds you do, good for your soul
Fish head, ram’s horn, shofar blow, give some money, appeal for dough
Yo, I’m returnin’ to the fold can you explain mo’
Got this desire to know Torah scroll, say hello
Our prayers rock, yeah, we’re the Jews and we question
Got the pride, just cant stop, our lives are changin’
Rosh Hashanah’s in the house tonight
All the world is passing through the light
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Shana Tova – It’s High Holiday time
Taking stock is what we do tonight
Shana Tova – it’s High Holiday time
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Blow the shofar and – Shuckle!
Three times a day I’m shucklin’
shucklin’, shucklin’
Shofar blast, all across the world we will do this task
Apples and honey, feelin’ glad – now stop, never get mad
Fill the Kiddush cup, my friends around
Books are opened up, the challah’s round
All our history, we see it now
Now please hear our plea, we’re prayin’ now
Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Stand up, sit down, pass the prayer books around
Pass the prayer books around, pass the prayer books around
Rosh Hashanah’s in the house tonight
All the world is passing through the light
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Shana Tova – it’s High Holiday time
Taking stock is what we do tonight
Shana Tova – it’s High Holiday time
Let’s all get written in the book of Life
Blow the shofar and – Shuckle!
Everyday I’m shucklin’

Shuckling (also written as shokeling), from the Yiddish word meaning “to shake”, is the ritual swaying of worshipers during Jewish prayer, usually forward and back but also from side to side. This practice can be traced back to at least the eighth century, and possibly as far back as Talmudic times. It is believed to increase concentration and emotional intensity (Eisenberg 2004:360). In Chassidic lore, shuckeling is seen as an expression of the soul’s desire to abandon the body and reunite itself with its source, similar to a flame’s shaking back and forth as if to free itself from the wick (Tanya chapter 19).
The 12th century Jewish philosopher and poet Yehuda Halevi wrote that the habit began as a result of a shortage of books, forcing people to hover over a single codex laid on the ground, each one bending in turn to read a passage (TheKuzari, part II, para. 80).
Dr. Simon Brainin says that the practice historically done “to afford the body exercise during study and prayer, which took up a large portion of the time of a great number of Jews”.[1]
In popular culture, shuckling was featured as the theme of the viral Internet film, “Rosh Hashanah Rock Anthem.”

Funny I learned that dance from those big rats on the car commercial, then studied the actual video. LOL. However I did not get the floor moves down, cause I could’nt get up. The Lord blessed me with a gift of dance which keeps me from the gift of talking too much. My grands laugh and are amazed at dance skills. LOL Everyday I’m shuckling!
That’s hilarious! You and I have a lot in common. While I don’t and can’t dance like these guys, I love dancing! Before I truly gave my life to God I used to stop by the dance club and just dance…and loved it. Then I’d just dance at home. I can bust some good moves too! Love it! Great exercise and a lot of fun! My kids are always trying to get me to teach them some of the moves, but I can’t, because I’m just feeling the music and moving to it the way i move.
