Who Do You Say I Am? A Touch of Jesus.

I AM!”

Note:  Shortly after this explanation of Jesus is an excerpt from book two, Soul Collector.  I want to create more passion in you about who Jesus was, is, and shall always be before you read it.  God bless you!

He is:

  • The way through which people find God
  • The promise that all who believe in Him will have eternal life
  • The supplier of all of our needs
  • Deliverer of God’s truths to all people of all nations
  • The way for all of humanity to discover God and become God’s children

What did Jesus say about Himself?

  • I AM the one who raises the dead to life (John 11:25-27)
  • I AM the gate for the sheep (John 10:7-10)
  • I AM the light for the world! (John 8:12)
  • I AM the bread that gives life! (John 6:47-51)
  • I AM the good shepherd (John 10:11-16)
  • I Am the vine (John 15:5-7)

Who do you say I AM?

Jesus moved people’s hearts and touched their lives immensely.  He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, forgave, and loved.  Whenever He spoke, it was with authority and boldness.  The reason He had such authority and power was because Jesus wasn’t just a man; He was God in the flesh!

Mark 8:27-30

27 Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”

28 So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”

29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”

30 Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.

In order to paint a more vivid picture of Jesus, allow me, if you will, to tell you a short story that might give you more of a defined picture of who Jesus is, and who He was.  I’m going to base this story on the account in Mark chapter 1:40-45, the story of the leper.  However, I am going to tell it in my own words in order to draw on your emotion to provide you with a more clear and concise picture of how it might have happened.  Gather around, relax, and listen as I take you many years ago to a small town where Jesus is performing miracles of love and faith.  You, the reader, are going to be in the crowd watching and listening, experiencing the emotion.

The characters in this excerpt are taken back to the times we only read about in the Bible, by way of a spiritual dream experience.  These two characters are actually living during the tribulation, and God is giving them these experiences in order to teach them something you will find out when you read the trilogy!  I hope you enjoy it!

A Touch of Jesus

“Is this a dream, because if it is, why do I still feel like a pregnant woman about to give birth?” She looked down at herself, draped in a long pale blue robe with brown leather sandals on her feet, her head covered with a matching headdress to shade her from the hot sun.

Khalid was wearing a white tunic made of linen that came down to his knees, which was tied around his waist with a sash. On his feet were also a pair of leather sandals similar to Krista’s.

The setting was early afternoon in a small town somewhere in Israel—Galilee, Nazareth, they weren’t sure which. Sandy roads twisted this way and that, with ornate buildings made of pale stone bricks—from gray to off white. People hurriedly hustled and bustled on foot, headed in every direction, stopping at the many marketplaces to purchase fruit, vegetables, livestock, fish, pottery, olive oil, fabrics, spices, perfumes—anything anyone could possibly need.

“Khalid, where on earth are we? What’s going on?” She was somewhere in between confused and dumbfounded as she gazed at Khalid’s stylish outfit with a big grin on her face.

She teased, “Wow, that outfit really suits you, do you think you could start wearing clothes like this more often? Just looking at you is making me overheat, and it’s already hot enough out here!” She fanned herself with her hand as she teased him.

Khalid looked down at himself and smiled, “Yes, this is not very attractive, and it appears I grossly failed to wax my legs this morning! How was I to know anyone would see them?” He joked back with her while stretching out one of his masculine hair covered legs.

He continued, more serious now, “It appears we are in ancient Galilee, around the time of Jesus Christ, though I’m not absolutely sure. How we are here, I do not know.” They started walking, unsure where they were going, but they walked. Krista bumped into an older woman carrying a clay pot and apologized immediately; the woman yelled something at her she didn’t understand.

They passed poor people and wealthy people; some appeared filthy wearing torn rags, and some appeared pious, decked out in long ornate robes and embroidered headdresses.

They turned the corner and took an alleyway between two stone buildings, which led to another opening where there were more townspeople rushing to and fro, when they spotted a man who looked similar to all of the other men, yet different.

People were crowding all around him, watching and whispering; some were walking back and forth on their tip-toes to get a peek, trying to press themselves in between people, but having little to no success. Strangely, Krista and Khalid walked right up to the front of the crowd, somewhat off to the side.

There was a hideous looking young man kneeling before another man who looked like Jesus, except darker skinned, and with more distinctive facial features that would suggest he was from the Middle East. If this was Jesus, He didn’t look like the beautiful, effeminate man everyone portrayed Him to be. He had quite a bit of facial hair, and dark hair on His head, intensely dark eyes, was somewhat muscular, and clad in a knee-length tunic like Khalid’s as opposed to the long floor length robe He was always shown wearing in paintings. His nose was on the bigger side of average, and his lips quite a bit thicker than what was illustrated.

The young man kneeling before Him was filthy and covered in repulsive sores from head to toe, over half of his teeth missing, and his hair glued together in clumps from a lack of hygiene and self-care. His hands, and part of his arms, were wrapped in a cloth that had once been white, though was now stained with dried blood and dirt. He wore a crude outfit which looked similar to itchy burlap, and it was torn. Part of the young man’s face had been covered, and he had pulled the cloth away so he could speak. What was even stranger was that Krista and Khalid could hear everyone speaking in English.

They overheard people talking amongst themselves; a man whispered to a woman standing next to her, “This young man is both unclean and diseased—is this radical Jew ignorant to stand so close to him? He will catch the boils and the lice from off of him! And besides, who could stand so close when I can smell the young man’s putrid stench from way over here!”

The young man fell on his face before this Jesus looking gentleman and bitterly wept, “Oh great healer, I live my life in pain and am nothing but a revolting festering sore to people who flee from me all the day long! I am required to make a spectacle of myself wherever I go, crying out loudly, ‘I’m unclean! I’m unclean!’ A moment does not pass without the flies and maggots crawling about my rotten flesh; and the itching and pain I suffer is driving me mad! I implore you to have pity on me; for it would have been better had I never seen the light of day at birth—for what life is there for me if I must live as this? The power is within your hands to make me well my Lord…if only you wanted to!” He pressed his face into the dirt and began kissing Jesus’ feet as he bitterly wept.

There was a low rumble in the crowd, “I can’t believe he’s letting this man touch him! Does he not know he will become like him? For it is vile and unclean to even look upon a leper as this and not corrupt oneself! The laws of Moses strictly command that we not touch a leper or else we make ourselves unclean as well!”

There was great commotion among the large group as people began spitting and yelling at the leper. One man, who appeared to be either a Pharisee or a Sadducee, shouted, “Go away leper, you are breaking the law and causing this man to sin before God! God has condemned your parents for their sins through you, and you are to stay away from people and proclaim yourself unclean! How dare you stand so close to others infecting them with your rotten corruption!”

Jesus turned to the crowd and held up His hands. “Do you people have no pity on the less fortunate? How many of you have festering, filthy sores in your hearts? You believe them to be hidden because other’s cannot see or smell your corrupt souls! Behold, I tell you the truth today—God looks upon the heart of man, and He sees the rottenness and corruption you secretly hide! Is God not a God of love that we should condemn this boy to a life of misery? Certainly not!” Everyone sensed His authority, and so they refrained from saying another word, silently standing by.

The young man repeated himself, his voice mixed with confidence and humility. He fixed his pleading eyes solely on Jesus, not paying any attention to the crowd of angry spectators. “If even for one day I could experience life as a normal man, and not as a piece of reeking toppled garbage, even this would bring me much joy! You have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.”

Jesus squatted down and placed his hand on the young man’s cheek, gently wiping his tears clean away with His thumb. The young man flinched at first, both afraid and surprised, for he hadn’t felt the human touch upon his skin since he was very young.

With a great deal of compassion and sincerity, Jesus looked the man in the eye, speaking softly, yet with authority, now cradling the side of the young man’s head within His hand.

“But young man, I do want to,more than you can even begin to conceive!” Jesus closed His eyes for only a brief moment as He uttered words no one could hear, when finally, He spoke once again. The crowd was so quiet you could hear a pin drop to the ground as everyone strained to listen to all that was being said, staring fixedly, not wanting to miss a single thing.

Jesus grinned with a smile that stretched across His face, his countenance glowing brightly. “Now you are well! Arise to your feet and be clean!” Jesus stood up, extending his arm to help the young man to his feet.

They were standing face to face as Jesus instructed him. “But you mustn’t tell anyone about this, only go to the Priest to show him you are healed. After you have done this, take a gift to the temple as Moses commanded, then everyone will know that you have been made well!”

Everyone watched in utter disbelief and awe, for they’d seen this young man with the leprosy for many years now, proclaiming, ‘I’m unclean! I’m unclean!’However, right before their very eyes, boils and sores disappeared all at once!

They heard one woman say, “Certainly this man is the Messiah sent by God come to save His people!”

Immediately following the woman’s comment, one of the religious men arrogantly remarked, “We must stop this man from these things! No one sent by God would break the laws of God delivered to us by Moses! He is a wicked blasphemer causing the people to abandon their beliefs, and soon they will begin to disobey the commandments and holy ordinances set forth by Jehovah!”

Allow me to give you one more example, the first martyred saint that was recorded; the story of Stephen.  A man whose faith was so strong, he praised God as he was being tormented, beaten, and stoned to death.  As you read this, I want you to recount the things in your life that hold you back from fully loving Christ.  I want you to sit and imagine this story of what Stephen went through for Jesus clearly within your mind.

The First Martyred Saint

Once again, they were standing on a dusty road in a city area as townspeople busily walked about from place to place—carrying pottery, clay cisterns, material, cages containing chickens, and cages containing pigeons—a little bit of everything imaginable that a person of that time would lug around.

Khalid was amazed by all that he saw. “I believe we are in Jerusalem, Krista.”

They glanced around at their surroundings and spotted a temple amongst some of the ornate buildings when several guards abruptly appeared, accompanied by men dressed in decorative robes with fancy headdresses. They all came rushing out of one of the structures, brutally dragging a man along with them.

The man cried out, “Praise God! I can see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God! Glory to God on the highest! Hallelujah!”

One of the men, who appeared to be a pious religious leader or a high priest, ran after the man as they violently drug him along by his arms, pointing his finger in his face as he kept up with them. He was full of hostility as he angrily shouted at the helpless victim. “You already said this to us you hypocrite! How dare you blaspheme the name of our God! You will suffer for this outrageous thing you say before the council this day!”

People began gathering around in groups, following the mayhem that was taking place to see what would happen. Krista and Khalid went along with the crowd, curious what historic Bible event they were witnessing now. Finally, they were all standing right outside of the city as the guards viciously apprehended the powerless man, while the pious looking people spat upon him.

Everyone watched as the witnesses laid down their outer garments at the feet of a young man who was standing nearby observing as he coaxed them on.

“Kill the blasphemer! Kill the wicked blasphemer!” He held his hands up in fists, thrusting them forward as he shouted and taunted.

One of the men tossed his cloak at the boy as he yelled, “Here Saul, guard this with your life! It is the newest and nicest of all of my garments!”

The boy named Saul leaned over to pick it up and shake it off as he carefully laid it across his forearms. “Not to worry! If one spot of dirt or even the slightest wrinkle is found upon your cloak, you may remove my hands from off of my body!”

The group of spectators held their mouths wide open in shock. Some were upset, tearfully pleading for them to leave the man alone and stop at once; while others applauded the group of religious elders, shouting insults and words of rage to the helpless man they called Stephen.

Khalid and Krista were stunned! They couldn’t believe how Stephen glowed with joy while enormous rocks were thumping and hammering in violent blows against his body! In between jolts, the self-righteous religious leaders would walk up and spit upon him, kicking him wherever a large boulder had mercilessly pelted against his body.

An older gentleman with a long white beard leaned over into Stephen’s face. “You filthy, vile, unclean, and blasphemous pig; now you shall rot in Hades alongside Lucifer who has a special place saved for the likes of you!” He spit into Stephen’s face, and then picked up a large pile of sand and hurled it into his saliva covered eyes. Afterwards, he belted him hard across his swollen, mangled mouth and nose so that large amounts of blood began pouring from them.

Regardless of pain, spit, rocks, blood, and blows, Stephen smiled as he lifted his hands up high in praise of God. The average person would believe him to be insane; however, Krista and Khalid already knew about Stephen, the first martyred saint.

They brutally threw the stones all the more forcibly at him, yelling, screaming, and gnashing their teeth as they did so. Krista and Khalid cringed as an extremely large rock hit his forehead so hard, they could hear a loud crack. They couldn’t believe he hadn’t passed out after having the daylights knocked out of him as he had; instead, he bravely endured the agonizing pain and violent torment, barely cringing at all.

Stephen lie on his back instead of cowering on his stomach, his face gleaming brightly as he steadfastly held his arms up toward the heavens. Finally, he cried out in a loud voice, “Lord Jesus! Please receive my spirit into Your hands!”

With much difficulty, he rolled over and pushed himself up so that he was on his knees stooping down in prayer position. A council member walked over and kicked him in his side ruthlessly; yet, as though nothing had happened at all, an enormous smile lit up his face as once again he boldly cried out for all to hear, “My Lord! Oh my heavenly Father above, in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, I beg you have mercy on these people—do not hold them accountable for this sin!”

All at once, his body went completely limp as he went down to the ground face first, his bruised and bleeding arms still stretched out before him. Rivers of blood began flowing from beneath this victorious, martyred saint; puddling all around him in crimson pools.

One of the religious leaders who had assisted in his stoning commented, “What? Is he dead already? There is no reason why this man should have already died!”

The one who appeared to be the high priest replied, “We can not deny that when he spoke, his face shone with the brilliance of an angel!”

Yet, another religious member of the council added, “This means absolutely nothing! Even Lucifer himself is able to appear as an angel of light!”

Both of these are excerpts from my second book, Soul Collector, in the Martyrdom Trilogy.  I share this with you because I believe the Lord gave me these stories, and I believe they are anointed and powerful.  Sure, I want to share my work so that people will want to have a copy, but more than that, I want the Holy Spirit to touch you…to change your life….to possibly save your soul.  That is worth far more to me than all of the money or self gratification in the entire world!  Now tell me, who is Jesus to you?

“Who do you say I AM?”

  3. Oh yes! I remember that part in your book!! Great post! And your are right, it goes perfect with mine! 🙂

  4. Wonderful! As one who loves to read and write, there is so much imagery and life in these accounts! I got goosebumps when I imagined the leper feeling the touch of Jesus…and just today, I read a short allegory of the Christian life directed towards children that described our sin as stench in a secret box. The young man beseeched Jesus because he knew the true state of things. Do I see my sin for the repulsive stench that it is? Do I acknowledge Jesus as the only one who can wash me clean and give me new life? Yes!
As for Stephen…when we see Jesus clearly, nothing else matters! Amazing. As a stay-at-home mom to a busy 3-year old, and a third grader who is equally busy with school and life, I am in a season of life that doesn’t allow for much recreational reading. However, when I do get a chance to sit down with a good book or two, yours will be on my list! Keep writing! –Alison

    • Thank you dear sister. God bless you and your family always! I have four children, work in the healthcare industry, manage all these blogs, write, edit, clean my house, and so forth…LOL so, I can relate very well!!!! There is just NOT enough time in one day, it seems. I know exactly what you are talking about. 🙂 Sometimes I have more time to write (because I can type fast) and less time to read. I’m with ya girl! Thanks again, and it was so nice having you visit. God bless you again!

  5. Lyn, another wonderful read. Do you know when your book will be ready for distribution? I’m sure it will be a blessing to many! May the Lord bless you and equipt you was you serve HIm!

    • Unfortunately, my agent and I just got the manuscript ready for submitting to publishers. He gave me the worse case scenerio, which was that it can take up to two months for them to just get back to you, and if they want a contract, it can take up to a year with the larger publishing companies. However, I’m not concerned. I know God wants these books out before that…so from here on out, it’s in His hands. The first one will come out first, then then second…and so forth. What you’ve read above is from the second book in the trilogy. I’m happy you enjoyed it! In the dropdown menu to your upper right here, there are some more sample excerpts..I do have some from Soul Deceiver, the first book. I also just posted a part IV to the series on Christian Blessings…where Krista and Khalid are taken to the crucifixion scene. In a few days I will post one more because I just can’t leave Jesus dead on the cross. The next one I post will be Jesus coming to make war with the enemy..the victorious and mighty warrior Jesus! God bless you Rob, and I’m honored by your comments!

  6. Who is Jesus to me? First and foremost, He is my Saviour who rescued me from a life of bondage and translated me into His kingdom. He CHANGED me completely and has continued His work in me for over 54 years.
Who is Jesus to me? It would take reams and reams to reply, so all I’ll say is that without Him I am nothing.

    What an amazing Saviour!

  7. You are amazing.

    • Thanks Muse! So are you! And so is our Lord! Right now, you hate Khalid..he’s a wicked, deceitful lizard in Soul Deceiver! Do you like Khalid and his harry legs here? LOL!!!!

      • I refuse to give you any hints of where I am. Just know I know where I am, maybe not! 😉

        Figure that out!

        • You’re rotten! And, I didn’t ask ;-P You don’t want to tell because you’ve been using it to line the kitty box again! LOL!!!

          • I will tell you the truth, I have to get another ink cartridge! Go ahead and laugh. I don’t mind! 🙂

          • I warned you not to print them up woman! LOL I told you they took two entire ink cartridges when I printed them, and those aren’t cheap! So it wasn’t that hubby needed my book for toilet paper, or you needed to line the kitty box then?

          • Hubby even said I must like the book if I am printing most of it. He lives to make me happy! LOL

  8. Yeshua is the Moshiach, the Son of the living Elohim (Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God).

  9. He is the Moshiach the Son of the living Elohim (the Christ the Son of the living God).

  10. This is a great piece of work, Lyn! We are really looking forward to the arrival of your book. Blessings in the name of Jesus, good friend.

  11. Lyn, you are a gifted writer! I was hooked by the second paragraph. At first, I didn’t realize I was reading part of your book. I thought to myself, “This should be a book!” I love the way you made me feel as though I was really there, along with the thought provoking story plot. Are we lepers in our hearts? What an intense and necessary question!! It made me do an inventory of myself! I cannot wait for these books to come out…I definitely want them all!!

  12. Lyn, I think you’ve done very well here in recreating a horrific scene, and creating a picture of how it might have looked. It was to my mind, powerful, and touching, and left me with a sense of deep sadness, and yet joy, too in being able to see Stephen reaching out to our Lord and Savior, and being received. I see nothing wrong with wanting to encourage people to read a book that could potentially have a very profound impact upon their lives. You did not have to publish these openly, and I commend you for doing so. God knows your heart, and your motives, and as your friend, and brother-in-Christ I feel that I do, too. I pray that God will use this to touch many people for the cause of Christ, and that He will receive honor and glory to Himself through your faithfulness and commitment to His service. I pray that you be blessed in this endeavor, and that God’s will be done through all and in all…

    • Thank you so much Wayne! You are always so supportive and uplifting! God bless you for your kindness and your wisdom. I’m sorry I missed our prayer meeting on facebook! I got wrapped up writing this and didn’t even realize what time it was! God bless you and know I always pray for you as I know you pray for me…because you tell me you do! 🙂

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 God's call to the world! Are you ready?
